Environmental Technology Assessment
(http://www.unepie.org/enta/home.html).
"Environmental technology assessment
(EnTA) is a process where the environmental aspects of a technology are
systematically examined and described. The program's goal is to encourage
the assessment of use of technologies from an environmental perspective."

Program's Structure & Target
Audience (http://www.unepie.org/enta/struct.html)
What is EnTA's structure?
Established in 1993, the EnTA Program
is co-ordinated by UNEP Industry and Environment (IE) in Paris. etc.
The EnTA Program has two primary objectives:
To create awareness of the need and
value of environmental technology assessment; and to build capacity in
applying environmental technology assessment.
Who is EnTA's Target Audience?
The primary clients and partners
for the EnTA Program are organizations and individuals involved in technology
assessment and technology transfer including, government agencies with
responsibilities for environment.
Overview of the EnTA Process
(http://www.unepie.org/enta/overview.html)
Description of EnTA
"EnTA is a process where the environmental
implications of a technology are examined and described. Its goal is to
assist in making informed choices on technologies that are compatible with
sustainable development. When used in an industrial context, EnTA can also
evaluate cleaner production characteristics."
Application of EnTA
EnTA can be used to assess implications
of the use of a particular technology and or select alternative technologies,
etc.
EnTA is one of several environmental
management tools used for improving decision making, with the overall aim
of improving the environmental performance of industry.
Its relationship with other tools

Users of EnTA
EnTA is a descriptive assessment
of a technology. Examples are given in this page
It also contains a Schematic
Diagram of EnTA.

User ' s booklet for assessing
the environmental impacts of a technology
In an effort to encourage the systematic
assessment of technologies and their environmental impact, UNEP IE and
UNEP IETC are jointly producing a simple user's guide on EnTA, based on
UNEP's Anticipating the Environmental Effects of Technology - A Primer
and Workbook. This booklet will outline a simplified assessment process
and will highlight how EnTA can be used to select technologies that meet
Cleaner Production (CP) criteria. It is intended to be used as a practical
step-by-step guide for decision makers.
Field - testing of the EnTA primer
and workbook
The EnTA Program, in conjunction
with University of Auckland, is field-testing the EnTA Primer and Workbook
in order to evaluate whether the goals of the Primer are being achieved.
